Lesson Plan for TPACK

Application

Integrating Health and Science into physical activity. In this lesson we will be going over the 11 major muscle groups of the body . This will help the students get to learn the curriculum in a different view. A lot of students are hands-on learners, and this activity will give them the opportunity to participate in the lesson.  Not only will the students be continuing to learn the bodies muscles they will be active while doing it.

Learners:  This lesson is designed for 3rd Grade leveled students, and is preferred for 7-10-year-old students

Learning Outcomes: At the end of this activity learners will be able to point out which muscle group is used in a certain exercise.

Assessment: If the students are quickly and confidently answering then they are showing that they have enjoyed, learned, and taken from the lesson.

·        The lesson would begin with me taking the class to my google classroom under assignment.

·        After that I will click on the Khan Academy video, I have set up under the assignment over the 11 major muscle groups this will take 4 minutes. Khan Academy link

·        After watching the video, we would then discuss how we are going to incorporate these muscle groups into are exercises taking 2 minutes.

·        I will then click on the app under our assignment in google class called Sworkit. Sworkit Kids Link

·        The class would then begin with a warmup and stretch led by me and the app for the muscles for approximately 2 minutes.

·        We will then go through our exercises while describing what muscle group or groups that exercise is covering. Taking 10-15 minutes

·        We will then come together and discuss how we felt about the activity and what we learned. 2 minutes

·        After I will assign them to leave a comment on the google classroom before midnight over what their favorite exercise was and what muscle groups did it use.

 REFLECTION:

What are your strategies and why do you think your strategies are appropriate to teaching

this specific content?  I like to use a mixture of teaching strategies such as direct teaching, teacher feedback, peer feedback, and lots of questions. I think in a physical education setting these are all important ways to teach the class. Direct teaching is kind of like a follow my lead and when instructing workouts that are new to the students following the teachers lead can be very helpful and helps the make sure they have a proper example. Teacher feedback is good, so the student know how they are doing and gives them something to think about for next time especially boosting the student’s confidence is important. Peer feedback is good for the students to correct something wrong or that they don’t necessarily like or do like so we can have a better classroom environment. I especially like groupwork activities because it teaches the students how to work with others and has them use problem solving skills. What makes you believe it would help your students comprehend  this particular content?  I think for the activity above direct teaching is huge especially when going through specific exercises the students learn to watch and follow my lead. While giving them feedback like “that looks great” “you are doing awesome” or even “you need to try and do this a little better” helps them to stay focused and keep trying their best. Allowing them to give their feedback helps me to learn what I should do more of or what I should do differently. I think by asking questions during the exercise like what muscle group does crunches cover and having them answer lets me know if they understand the lesson or not.

What would be some conceptions and pre-conceptions that students of different ages and backgrounds bring with them when learning this particular content? What would you be concerned about students' prior knowledge, experiences, motivation?  Some kids will have no concept of the activity and some kids will. A few preconceptions would be that it hurts and is not fun and some think it’s fun and healthy. For all ages it will be different some will already know what a sit-up or pushup is and some will have never heard of it. I might be concerned if the student is unwilling to try the activity also a student may already be advanced in a certain area so finding a way to keep that student progressing would be a concern.

What main instructional strategies would this technology use serve in your activity? Having a classroom set up like google classroom to give the whole class access to the activities. In this activity the lesson is taught on a video chat so having a link sent to student or parent emails. Finding apps and links to share with the students. How would using the technology support the way you teach this activity?  I would be able to still be direct teaching just through a screen having the students copy my moves. The technology gives me the opportunity to choose fun apps like the Sworkit Kids app which also has videos with demonstrations on how to do exercises. Technology would be helpful in so many ways I can direct students to certain sites that have information and activities for them. What different classroom management strategies you might need to consider when using this technology in the activity? Create clear instructions. Show the students and have them practice with the tools on the sites and apps we will be using. Take attendance to ensure they are participating. Record meetings on the zoom video chat and warn and remove students who are misbehaving. How would using this technology enhance the way the content is represented in your Activity? In what different ways students practice or understand the content in your activity that

would otherwise not be possible without the use of the technology? It would encourage students to use technology for learning purposes. Helps personalize and create opportunities for students with varying needs. They can learn at their own pace go back to lessons and re-watch instructions and activities. If they need to watch the 11 major muscles again, they can as many times as they need and they can pause the sworkit exercises to make sure they are performed correctly or even if they just want to do extra they can go through the workout as many times as they want. In addition to motivational benefits, what else can students do with this technology as they are learning the content? They can browse and search things to help them with the activity and also, they can practice and review or even ask questions.
